Thanks for registering for the 2015 Maritime Orienteering Festival. Our planning is going well and we are looking forward to seeing you in August. We are sending this email to give you a few updates and help you with your planning.
SASS PEEPRE NATIONAL JUNIOR TRAINING CAMP
June 30 is next registration deadline.
The annual Sass Peepre National Junior Orienteering Training Camp will be from August 17 - 19. Take advantage of the Early Bird rate - register your kids by June 30. Regular fees are in effect from July 1 until the final reg deadline of Aug 15.

The Sass Peepre Camp (SPC) is intended for orienteers aged 11-20 and all levels of experience from beginner to advanced. Beginners should have tried at least a few orienteering events before. This year the camp will run out of the Broadleaf Guest Ranch, 10 minutes from Hopewell Rocks. SPC 2015 is a great opportunity for young orienteers to connect with their peers from across Canada and the US while enjoying some terrific training.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS
We are a small organizing committee and organizing the Canadian Orienteering Championships is a big job. If you are able to volunteer in some capacity during the Maritime O Festival, we would be most grateful. Even volunteering just one day is a-ok. And yes you can still run your race. We are looking for people to help with:

You can pick up your registration kit Fri Aug 14 from noon to 5 in Moncton or Sat Aug 15 at the Kiwanis Community Center in Hillsborough.

PECHA KUCHA - ORIENTEERING STYLE
Have you heard of PechaKucha? It's a type of presentation in which 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each for a max of 6 minutes, 40 seconds/presenter. We are looking for a variety of presenters on a wide range of orienteering related topics. Each presentation will be short and sweet. We have done this a few times and it is lots of fun! Are you interested in doing a presentation? If so, contact Anne Teutsch (president AT orienteering DOT ca).
Where: Debert Hospitality Centre, Debert, NS, Saturday Aug 22 after the Pasta Dinner.
SILENT AUCTION
The annual silent auction that raises funds for Orienteering Canada’s High Performance Program is the main fundraiser of the year. We aim to raise over $4000 to help develop programming and coaching to support Canada’s elite orienteers. We welcome donations of all sorts. And we also encourage you to bid on items at the auction. Here are a few ideas of potential items to donate:
COACHING WORKSHOP
Orienteering Canada’s Coaching Committee will be piloting their newest coaching program during the COC week: The Introduction to Competition level. Please consider taking this coaching course to develop your coaching repertoire. You do not need to be a trained Community Coach to qualify to take this workshop. Everyone with an interest in coaching (especially coaching juniors) are welcome. The cost of the workshop will be approximately $40. Ask your club or provincial association if they will sponsor you.
The duration of the course will be 7 hours divided into 3 sessions. The main session will be on the Saturday evening (August 15th) and will last 3 hours. The next session will be a 2 hour practical training exercise at the Sass Peepre camp near Hillsborough. The last session will be a one hour wrap-up on Friday evening Aug 21 at the Debert Hospitality Centre..

- Can your club donate an entry to an upcoming event?
- Are you a crafter – can you donate something like a pair of homemade mittens, hat, pottery, jewelry?
- Are you a foodie – can you donate a jar of home-made jam or a batch of cookies or granola?

- Are you an artist – do you have a sketch of an orienteering scene, or a great photograph that you could put in a frame?
